The YAESU FTA-550L is a versatile and affordable handheld airband transceiver designed for pilots who demand a combination of communication, navigation, and convenience. Featuring a full dot-matrix LCD display (1.7″ x 1.7″, 160 x 160 dots), the FTA-550L provides clear and easy-to-read information, whether you’re on the ground or in the cockpit.
The FTA-550L operates on the Aircraft Communications Band (AM) and adds VOR and ILS navigation capabilities on the “NAV” band. When a VOR signal is received, the display automatically switches to a CDI-based NAV screen, giving pilots intuitive and accurate navigation guidance. It also features NOAA weather band monitoring with alerts, keeping pilots informed of weather conditions in real time.
With 5 watts of transmit power (AM 5W P.E.P., 1.5W carrier) and an 800 mW loud internal speaker, the FTA-550L ensures communications are loud, clear, and reliable. The radio supports up to 200 programmable memory channels, each with up to 15 alphanumeric characters, allowing pilots to name and store all of their favorite frequencies for instant recall. The icon-driven menu system is simple to navigate, while the back-lit keypad and display with adjustable dimmer make it easy to operate in low-light conditions.
The FTA-550L is water-protected with an IPX5 rating, adding durability and peace of mind in challenging weather conditions. The radio is PC programmable using the supplied USB cable, making it quick and simple to reconfigure channels and settings.
